We believe in our impact in the future, want to design responsibly and create sustainable furniture and spaces.

The construction sector causes over 50% of the CO2 gas emissions in Germany. This is a significant number, which shows that we, as part of this industry, must act to stop climate change. But what does sustainable practice mean for us as interior designers?

Interior Design has always been considered sustainable - as not building something new is the most resourceful thing one can do. But even when we modernize the existing substance we can do so much more to protect our resources. We want to create sustainable interiors so that we leave climate-resilient and livable spaces for generations to come. So we have to ask ourselves how much space we really need, design healthy spaces for people and nature and be mindful of the products and materials we use.

Our approach

We have learnt much about sustainability in Interior Design and created a new vision for our own work as a result.

Sustainable Interior Design

These are some insights on sustainable design and what we can do better in the future.

What’s the problem in the Interior Design industry?

In the past years overconsumption has developed into a “fast furniture” market that is equally problematic as the fast fashion industry. This does not just apply to furniture itself but also to the building materials that are used in interiors. To allow cheap production of products and furniture, the materials that are used are often toxic for us or the planet.

What is sustainable interior design?

The design of an interior using furniture, finishes, and equipment which is taking into consideration the environmental impact of products and building materials used. Involved companies and producers should also fulfill human standard rights and care about their ways of delivery. Each product should be able to be disassembled into separate parts to be recycled at the end of its lifetime.

  • We consider the existing substance of the building and try to reuse and recycle as much as possible.

  • It is important to look behind buzz words. Therefore we always check if a brand or product does actually meet sustainability criterias from renown organisations.

  • Whenever we develop a new interior, we reflect on the impact it will have on your health, your surroundings and the environment. We continuously seek new perspectives to learn about new techniques and materials for interior components, such as wood and textiles. In addition to the durability, we also consider a material’s origin and life cycle.

  • Our design considerations include using recycled materials in the manufacturing process, reutilizing old furniture and using products that can be disassembled and recycled after their useful life.

  • We focus on long-lasting and timeless design as well as good quality and endurance to create interiors that last.
